Numa parceria com o projeto @callelibre de Viena, Austria, temos o prazer de anunciar a exposição do artista Sebastian Schager – @artis.love – e de gravuras da printshop @leapartprints – na Choque – abertura no sábado, 08/03 às 10 às 17h – Alameda Sarutaiá 206, Jardim Paulista, São Paulo.

O projeto contempla residência e intervenções urbanas – que serão realizadas em vários pontos da cidade. O intercâmbio entre São Paulo e Viena nasceu de um esforço do artista @tecfase que fez as articulações que o levou a participar em 2022 do festival Calle Libre em Viena . Em julho de 2023, o artista Daniel Melim @melim_abc foi a Viena e também participou do festival com um mural, além da exposição Tec + Melim na galeria @ag18_gallery .

About the Exchange Initiative Between Vienna and São Paulo

VI(E)-SÃO – The convergence of two foreign cultures, Vienna meets São Paulo. This transcontinental collaboration between the Brazilian gallery “Choque Cultural” and the Viennese festival “Calle Libre” presents a multi-layered cross-section of the international street art scene, initiated by pursuit of a common vision, in Portuguese “visão”.

The VI(E)-SÃO exhibitions mark the beginning of a creative exchange between the cities of Vienna, Austria, and São Paulo, Brazil. VI(E)-SÃO shows itself as a rupture of opposites and a fusion of lived dichotomies. Latin America meets Europe, street art meets gallery, large-scale wall designs meet prints.This initiative brings together Austrian, European, and South American artists showcasing their work in open and accessible locations reaching a diverse audience.

With the focus on activating public spaces, the Calle Libre Festival introduces artists from around the world to the people of Vienna, fostering a dialogue through large-scale murals and public art projects.

In 2022, Argentine artist Tec created a large mural during the Calle Libre festival, followed by Brazilian artist Daniel Melim in 2023. The inaugural VI(E)-SÃO exhibition hosted that same year at AG18 Gallery in Vienna, featuring works by both artists alongside prints of internationally recognized street artists. Represented by Choque Cultural, Tec and Melim have significantly contributed to this cultural exchange.

This year, the São Paulo chapter of the VI(E)-SÃO exchange will take place on March 8th, 2025, with Calle Libre showcasing the work of Austrian artists Sebastian Schager, Coins, and LEAP Art Prints, which include some festival edition prints of the last years. This event will include a mural by Sebastian Schager and the exhibition at Choque Cultural Gallery, where artworks will be available for display, offering collectors and the audience an opportunity to engage with these works. The exhibition is curated by Calle Libre Festival founder Jakob Kattner

This exchange program is designed to be ongoing, with the aim of fostering an urban cultural dialogue between Vienna and São Paulo. Its aim is to facilitate attention and appreciation to talented artists by making it accessible to a wider audience, thereby also promoting the vibrant  urban arts scene.

Information about Calle Libre:

Calle Libre is a festival for urban aesthetics that brings together today’s contemporary forms of urban aesthetics and other forms of street art onto curated walls throughout the city.

Through artistic interventions, we encourage a dialogue between the public and the artists. We want cultural perspectives, personal opinions and artistic views to be expressed freely. We believe we can achieve this through a colorful, engaging and expressive yearly public festival: Calle Libre.

We also offer workshops, exhibitions, panel discussions and international cooperations to create a dialogue and exchange of ideas focused around street art and urban aesthetics.

Over the past 10 years, we have attracted over 100.000 visitors from all backgrounds and walks of life. Our goal was that of showing a different side of street art, aside from the “writings” or “bombings” often identified as vandalism by the wider public. Through our festival we have could inform a wider audience on the nature, proportion and potential of street art as a true form of art.

Sobre a iniciativa de intercâmbio entre Viena e São Paulo 

A exposição VI(E)-SÃO é um primeiro passo para estabelecermos um intercâmbio criativo entre as cidades de Viena, Áustria e São Paulo, Brasil. Através da iniciativas do festival Calle Libre em associação com a galeria AG18 de Viena e da Choque Cultural em São Paulo, artistas europeus e sul-americanos apresentarão suas artes em eventos abertos e gratuitos para todos os públicos. 

Com ênfase na ocupação de espaços públicos a céu aberto, o festival Calle Libre tem apresentado muitos artistas de todo o mundo para a população da cidade austríaca.

Em 2022, o artista argentino Tec criou um grande mural durante o festival Calle Libre, seguido pelo artista brasileiro Daniel Melim em 2023.

A contrapartida paulistana ocorrerá em março de 2025, quando um artista austríaco virá a São Paulo para apresentar um mural no espaço urbano e obras que estarão à venda para o público em geral e para colecionadores brasileiros na galeria Choque Cultural.

O programa de intercâmbio pretende ser contínuo e visa promover a aproximação das culturas vienense e paulistana por meio da arte urbana, facilitando o acesso de toda a população para os trabalhos de artistas muito talentosos e que merecem toda a nossa atenção e incentivo.
